Bred for dominance in the forest, the Toyota GR Yaris is today's Lancia Delta
Underneath those big guards lies weapons-grade hardware
The Toyota GR Yaris was one of the most hotly-anticipated cars of 2020.
You can read our review for the Sydney Morning Herald / Drive.com.au here. In that review, we gave this car a score of 9.0/10, which is as good as it gets.
Why? Its engine is supremely balanced and incredibly rev-happy, and strapped to smart gearing that makes it belie its capacity. Its chassis is incredibly stiff, but shod with somewhat compliant suspension. That makes it fast and fun on a road surface.
Then there are simple party tricks like a handbrake that uncouples its 4×4 system when you tug it and makes the car slide without the need for dipping on the clutch.
It’s the discerning hooligan’s car made from weapons-grade hardware. If you like light, fast and agile, this is your car.

This 2020 Toyota GR Yaris was delivered new to Australia and has had two-owners from new, including us.
It was originally delivered via Le Mans Toyota in Victoria. We purchased it from a client who was the first owner. The second and current owner is a director of Cult & Classic who has has used the vehicle solely on the school run.
It has never turned a wheel and anger and begs its new owner to do so. It comes with a full Toyota service history and has never been modified or repaired or in an accident.
It features keyless entry and start, a heated steering wheel, heated sports seats, a performance 4×4 system with adjustable bias, six-speed manual, ‘G16E-GTS’ 1.6-litre turbocharged engine, a carbon fibre roof, and more.
