Loved for over 40-years and now sadly discontinued,

The last Suzuki Swift Sport is arguably the best of the bunch

The Suzuki Swift Sport has been an up-punching performance hatchback since 1984.

The first-ever generation Swift GTI, which was offered new in Australia, marked the beginning of the Suzuki Swift Sport’s legacy.

However, it was the second 1.3-litre ‘G13B’-powered Swift GTI that really made its mark in Australia. This highlight was later followed by another bang with the Ignis Sport – technically a Suzuki Swift – that sold in limited numbers too.

It has developed a cult-like status among amateur motorsport enthusiasts here and abroad.

This current-generation and final revision ‘ZC33S’ Suzuki Swift Sport is the last and best in a 40-year legacy. Try and name another new performance car that weighs 970 kg.

In the real world, it remains unmatched in terms of kerb weight and all the good things that came with it. It also has no stop-start system, a lane departure warning system that says ‘permanently off’ and never reactivates, and a stout turbocharged engine that’s connected to a slick and short-geared six-speed manual.

The Swift finally gets the torque and considered gearing that it always deserved.

There’s a real reason why you see Japanese racetracks littered with Swift Sports of this generation. It’s a fantastic performance car that teaches the fundamentals well whilst being affordable, easy to own and still covered by a warranty.

Cult&Classic purchased this car new, and it has served as Justin’s company car since then. He adores it and has fitted a nice selection of genuine Suzuki and aftermarket goodies that were personally procured on trips to Japan.
