Capable on- and off-road, the Suzuki Carry is a versatile and tough little truck
This late-model example has advanced safety features and other goodies, too
For over 50 years, Japan has offered the Suzuki Carry, a Japanese kei truck, in various forms.
The current generation – codenamed ‘DA16T’ – is still sold new in Japan. It is a nifty and compact ute with exterior dimensions of 3.39 metres long by 1.47 metres wide.
It’s designed with excellent ground clearance and 4×4. A kerb weight of just 680 kg means it uses bugger-all fuel and feels agile to drive. You’ll find it’s powerful enough to do stints at motorway speeds.
The drop-side tray is 1.40 metres wide by 1.95 metres long and will carry around 350 kg safely. All of our Suzuki Carrys come with a federal-based certification, which enables them to be road-registered in any state in Australia.
This example is a flagship ‘KX’ model with LED headlights, advanced driver assist systems and more. Its 660cc three-cylinder engine is located in the middle of the vehicle in a longitudinal fashion, which creates a fantastic and ergonomic cab-over design. When the vehicle is not locked to 4×4, it is rear-wheel drive.
There’s a reason you see millions of kei trucks in Japan doing everything from providing kegs of beer to establishments to moving fruit and veg for tomorrow’s shop opening.
Huge amounts of steering lock result in a fantastic turning circle of 3.6 metres, and your forward-facing vantage point makes it easy to place the truck in tight confines or up-and-around tracks on your property or job site.

This Suzuki Carry was built in April 2023 and was purchased from USS Tokyo (Japan) as a 4.5B grade vehicle. That means it’s in excellent condition for its age and looks close to new. It was factory optioned in navy blue metallic.
It’s powered by a 660cc three-cylinder ‘R06A’ engine that’s renowned for its reliability. This example features a traditional torque-converter automatic and selectable four-wheel drive.
Safety features include low-speed autonomous emergency braking, lane keeping assist, dual airbags, air conditioning, power steering and ABS. As a KX model, it also receives power windows, remote central locking, front fog lights, tray-edge protectors and a tray liner.
Aftermarket extras include 12-inch Japanese wheels, a Japanese double-DIN stereo with functioning Bluetooth and a very Japanese CD inside, and a rear work light.
The tray is in excellent condition for its age and has clearly been protected to date. Its interior is in great condition, too. Neither the tray nor the truck shows signs of hard use. This truck comes with two keys, three months of NSW registration, associated Japanese paperwork, and Australian Federal compliance.
