It took a long time for Porsche to gift its ideal mid-engine platform the RS treatment.

And for good reason, too.

There’s nothing worse than a younger sibling who is better at life than you.

This situation contradicts the inherent hierarchy that exists in the universe and is simply unfair. That is why brands and other things where people control the results will create a halo effect.

Porsche considers its 911 to be its most beloved model. It confirmed this bias by once reserving its RS treatment, which refers to a performance-oriented upgrade, exclusively for its rear-engine types, despite its younger Cayman having better bones.

Its mid-engine layout objectively states it has more inherent balance, and it’s thinner and lighter too. Eventually, Porsche catered to the fans’ demands and dedicated the entire RS division to its Cayman.

The result is staggering, and if you’re after a road and track toy, you can’t ask for more. In fact, it’s so fast, it was only 9.4 seconds off the time that the 991 GT2 RS achieved around the Nürburgring. And that was a car that broke the lap record for a production vehicle.

Another qualitative benefit is its weight. At just 1415kg, its weight gives it a personality that a near two-tonne 911 can’t match. The GT4 RS is agile, alert, thrilling, and has a similar weight to those old fast cars you used to know and love.
