Taking inspiration from iconic American military vehicles, the Daihatsu Taft is both gruff and rugged

It's not short on style or tech either, with an glass panoramic roof and adaptive cruise control.

Squint and you’ll see a Hummer.

The Daihatsu Taft has been around for over half a century, where it started life as a minature Toyota Land Cruiser. These days, the Daihatsu Taft is a modern and funky kei hatchback with a turbocharged engine and technology is spades.

On top of adaptive cruise control, it has autonomous emergency braking, speed sign recognition, full LED headlights with automatic high beams, reverse parking sensors, lane departure warning, and plenty more gadgets and gizmos.

It’s also one of the few kei cars to have a panoramic glass roof, which lends a sense of class and maturity to the package. Four adults will fit with ease, and there’s two ISOFIX mounting points in the back for child seats.

It feels like a much bigger car to drive, too.
