Sometimes simple is best
Aside from power windows and remote central locking, there isn't much to go wrong!
The Daihatsu Hijet is the best-selling kei truck in Japan.
It’s been a best-seller continuously for over 50 years, so it’s no stranger to being good. Although it’s slightly heavier than a competitive Suzuki Carry, it is more pleasant to drive overall.
It’ll sit at 110 km/h on the motorway. It features 4×4, a low-range transfer case and rear diff lock, and power options. It is a nifty and compact ute with dimensions of 3.39 metres long by 1.47 metres wide.
The Hijet Jumbo’s drop-side tray measures up at 1.70 metres long by 1.40 metres wide and will carry around 350 kg safely. There is a small bulkhead extension which allows slim lengths of up to 1.90 metres to fit in the tray.
We provide federal-based vehicle compliance for all our Daihatsu Hijets, allowing road registration in any Australian state. This one also comes with three months of NSW rego.
The 660cc three-cylinder engine is located in the middle of the vehicle in a longitudinal fashion, which creates a fantastic and ergonomic cab-over design. When the vehicle is not locked to 4×4, it is rear-wheel drive.
Huge amounts of steering lock result in a fantastic turning circle of 3.6 metres, and your forward-facing vantage point makes it easy to place the truck in tight confines or around tracks on your property or job site.

This Daihatsu Hijet Jumbo is an ‘Extra’ model and was built in May 2016. It is finished in the classic colour of ‘white’.
It’s powered by a 660cc three-cylinder ‘KF’ engine that’s built by Toyota and known to go the distance. It features a five-speed manual transmission with selectable 4×4 (otherwise RWD), a low-range transfer case and a rear differential lock.
As a top-spec ‘Extra’ model, it gets power windows, remote central locking, a CD player with double-DIN provision, dual airbags, air conditioning, overhead storage and ABS. It comes with two keys and some Japanese paperwork.
Overall, the vehicle presents in above-average condition. The interior is in excellent shape, with a few minor marks that you have to go looking for. The interior has aged well, with some minor wear marks around the cup holder area. It was purchased from the south and sunny side of Japan via the auction network as a grade 4.0B example.
This example has a few extras, like 13-inch JDM alloy wheels with new Hankook tyres. It was recently serviced upon arriving into Australia
