Nissan makes sporty cars generally, but its Skyline badge is only put on driver's cars

And in this flavour we have an intoxicating blend of a powerful 3.5-litre VQ engine, hybrid system and advanced rear-wheel drive chassis

Nissans generally feel more sharp, planted and direct than Toyotas or Suzukis.

Where each brand has its own ‘way’ of doing things, Nissan generally makes robust cars that err on  he side of control and stiffness over ride quality and softness.

They often feel inherently sporty as a result, and the brand has always maintained this with its Skyline moniker. The badge has generally been replaced on six-cylinder rear-wheel drive vehicles, and this one is no different.

This 2014 Nissan Skyline Hybrid features a 225kW/350Nm version of Nissan’s VQ35DE – as per the Nissan 350Z – that’s further boosted by a hybrid system. Its total combined power output of 268kW is greater than a non-hybrid version, and it offers better performance and far better fuel economy (offical claim 5.5L/100KM).

The on-board electric motor generates a maximum torque of 290Nm alone. All of that tech is wrapped in a sophisticated rear-wheel drive platform with a double wishbone front end and tidy independent multi-link rear.

It’s a clever car that shuns the idea of an SUV and offers better driving dynamics and hybrid fuel-saving tech instead
