Halfway through its life, the Toyota Crown Athlete received a facelift

Along the way, it benefitted from subtle improvements

Like most manufacturers, Toyota conducts a model update halfway through a car’s lifecycle.

After two years in production, Toyota did so with its 200-series Toyota Crown. Alongside exterior changes – like updated headlights and tail lights – the car also received higher-quality touchpoints inside.

This example is lovely and original. Power comes from a 3.5-litre V6 engine with 232 kW/377 Nm. Codenamed ‘2GR’, it’s a naturally aspirated mill that’s used in some Australian-delivered vehicles.

It’s the same engine found in the Toyota Tarago that Motor Magazine used to humiliate a Porsche at the drags, which you can watch here.

It’s plenty fast, and the six-speed auto shifts crisply, too. The front end utilises a double-wishbone setup for maximum control, whilst the rear benefits from a precise multi-link rear suspension that rivals the best of Europe.

You can’t argue against it, other than the fact it looks a bit like a Toyota Camry.

Our Toyota Crown Athlete was built in November 2010 and was purchased from USS Osaka (Japan) as a 4.0B grade vehicle.

Standard features include leather trim, heated and cooled electric front seats, a sunroof, keyless entry and start and cruise control. Our workshop can upgrade its factory touchscreen infotainment system to support Apple CarPlay/Android Auto at an additional cost.

The vehicle has been serviced upon arriving in Japan and comes with two keys and some service history. The paint is wholly original and the car presents in well above average condition for its age.

Since Australia sold the ‘2GR’ Toyota engine, parts are easily accessible. We also keep a stockholding of genuine Toyota and aftermarket parts like oil/air filters, spark plugs and more.

Either way, our workshop can assist with maintenance and parts.
