A humble Toyota Corolla factory-fitted with a 200-kilowatt 3.5-litre V6 engine

This top-spec 'G' features adaptive cruise control, half-leather trim & more

Yes – Toyota unbelievably fitted its 3.5-litre ‘2GR’ V6 engine into the humble Corolla.

It’s the same engine most famously seen in the Toyota Crown, Toyota Mark X, Toyota Aurion, and others. Known as the Toyota Blade Master, this niche product saw exclusive sales in Japan from 2007 to 2009. In that time, Toyota only managed to sell 2,880 examples of its Blade Master, making it quite a rare car from what is the largest car brand in the world.

This example is also one of 159 finished in ‘3R6 Ginger Red metallic’, making it rare. It’s a fantastic colour that shifts depending on the light and time of day. The six-speed auto features paddle shifters to entice the driver, and on a sweeping back road, the old Blade isn’t a terrible thing to have at your side. This example was also factory-optioned with adaptive cruise control.

It feels very un-Toyota inside, too, with extensive use of Alcantara on its doors, dashboard, gauge cluster surround, and seats. A floating gear shift console and orange interior illumination both feel inspired by Europe, too.

Toyota beefed up the suspension and brakes to handle the extra potency—just stick your head under the back and look at the upgraded levels of rear-axle adjustment it has.

If you’re after a genuine sleeper that’s reliable and easy to own, you’ve found your match.

This Toyota Blade was built in September 2007 and is a ‘Master G’ trim level.

That means it’s powered by a 3.5-litre naturally-aspirated ‘2GR-FE’ V6 engine with 206kW of power and 344Nm of torque. Power to sent to the front wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.

It presents in above average condition inside and out, and comes with a full Toyota service history. It was purchased from a Japanese used car auction as a grade 4.0B example with one previous owner. It comes with two keys.

Standard features include adaptive cruise control, keyless entry and start, a reverse camera, Alcantara and leather interior trim, roof-mounted ambient lighting, automatic headlights and climate control. Factory options include parking sensors.
