Designed by Pinky Lai, the 996-generation 911 was the first to walk away from its original design 40 years earlier.
And while the contemporary peanut gallery shunned it, the 996 later became Generation Y's 911 of choice.
Some things age fine, just like a bottle of wine.
You could say the same thing for the 996-generation Porsche 911. Whilst then-contemporary critics, consumers, and admirers all scoffed and scorned at its design, Hong Kong-born designer of the 996, Pinky Lai, actually captured the moment perfectly.
With fluidity and futurism at the core of avant-garde design in the early 2000s, the 996 generation is merely a reflection of the times. The generation that grew up as young children in this era is now firmly in love with the stylistic themes of their youth, and this is what the 996 represents.
We’re all reaching our 40s nowadays. It’s the 911 we know, the 911 we love, and the one we all want. This example was actually inherited by a client of ours from her father in South Africa.
Her father had a passion for collecting various items, such as Porsches and motorbikes. We helped her export the car and are now selling it on consignment on behalf of her family.

This Porsche 911 is a Carrera 4 Cabriolet model that was manufactured in March 2004 and originally delivered new in South Africa.
We imported the vehicle into Australia by its second owner, and it comes with some service history and its original books. It’s powered by a 3.6-litre ‘M96.03’ flat-six engine with 235 kW/370 nm that sends power through a Tiptronic automatic transmission and then to all four wheels.
It presents in original condition, wearing mostly original paint aside from the lower section of the front bumper that was painted by a locally known body shop. The original fabric roof is in excellent condition, and its electronic folding mechanism functions well.
The grey leather interior is in above-average condition, with minor wear showing on the steering wheel and driver’s side window switch. Its climate control screen shows minor liquid bleed on the left-hand side. The powertrain feels strong, and there are no visible oil leaks or signs of fluid escaping the engine.
