The Toyota X-chassis vehicles remain its best.
The X-chassis has always been used to underpin Toyota’s best medium-sized, rear-wheel-drive and six-cylinder offering. In the 1980s, as the brand matured, its JZ-powered X-chassis cars gained legendary status in motorsport, particularly drifting.
This eleventh-generation JZX110 bookends Toyota’s epic saga of building rear-wheel-drive sedans. Even grassroots motorsport fans of this generation have pilfered the Toyota Mark II in search of a potent and reliable track or drift car, making excellent examples thin on the ground.
We were immediately captivated by this particular example upon finding it at a car auction. First, the 4.5B condition grade, a rare sight for a JZX110. Next, we noted the significant attributes of this car: it has had one owner, is original, unmodified, never repaired, and finished in a striking factory-option two-tone paint.
It’s a rare vehicle that we find once or twice a year in similar condition. You can either enjoy this example as-is or equip it with chrome VS-KFs and an R154.

The car pictured – 2001 Toyota Mark II iR-V Grande
This Toyota Mark II was built in January 2001 and is an ‘Ir-V Grande’ model, making it a top-spec trim level powered by a turbocharged and variable-valve-timed 1JZ straight-six turbo with 206 kilowatts of power and 378 newton-metres of torque. It features a four-speed automatic and regular handbrake.
It was listed as a one-owner car at USS Tokyo and graded 4.5B. It comes with a Toyota service history and was serviced upon arriving in Australia. Its front lower arm bushes were replaced, and it was fitted with a set of Hankook tyres.
The vehicle presents in well above-average condition for its age. The exterior is original, and there are no noticeable dents or scratches. The only imperfection is some dirt that has made its way under the factory paint protection triangles just in front of the rear wheels.
We left it as-is to preserve originality, but they can be easily removed if desired. The interior still looks fresh, and the car has never been smoked in, which in itself makes it a unicorn. Its EMV screen is showing minor dulling, but it still visible and functional.
