The Legacy GT-B features a twin-turbo version of Subaru's iconic EJ20 flat-four
and this e-tune model features twin sunroofs, Bilstein dampers and other performance touches
As Australians, we were blessed by the excellent local management of the Subaru brand.
We were the only market in the world to receive cars like the two-door Impreza WRX STI, the four-door Impreza WRX STI, and the iconic 22B that were offered new in our showrooms.
We also received many other special editions that would make the world of Subaru fans very jealous. One car we did get was the Subaru Liberty B4, which was a twin-turbo powered sedan with close to 200 kilowatts.
We never had that powertrain in a wagon, but in Japan, it was a common sight. The third-generation Subaru Legacy GT wagon has aged well, with its pillarless design and long glasshouse still looking clean and tidy.
The interior quality and fit-out are also commendable, featuring a premium cloth trim and neat interior detailing that still feels quality today.
Kick it in the guts, and it still moves out, too. It remains surprisingly fast for an automatic wagon.

Built in September 2001, this Subaru Legacy is a ‘GT-B E-Tune’ trim level.
That means it’s powered by a 2.0-litre flat-four twin-turbo ‘EJ208’ engine with 206 kW / 320 Nm. It features a permanent and symmetrical all-wheel drive system and a four-speed automatic with a steering-wheel ‘sports shift’ selection.
We purchased the car as a one-owner, grade 4.0B vehicle from the USS Japanese car auction network. It comes with a full Subaru service history, its original handbook, and both sets of keys.
It presents in above-average condition inside and out and has never been repainted or repaired. Factory options include ”B”-spec Bilstein suspension and a twin sunroof. SStandard features include climate control, sports seats with electric adjustment on the driver’s side, traction control, gear shift buttons mounted on the steering wheel, HID headlights, and remote central locking.
Extra goodies on this car include a wonderful Pioneer stereo and a Fujitsubo diff-back muffler. It is quiet, but it does rumble!
