Let's not kid ourselves here – The 6.5 TME was the best Evo ever produced.
With just 49,000km from new, this original Tommi Makinen edition even had a factory sunroof!
Homologation specials are usually the best cars to drive.
Why? Because they’re uncompromising road cars that have been built in order to achieve success in motorsport.
Before you even stick your head under its rear end to admire the tricky Active Yaw Control (AYC) differential, you just need to look at the Secondary-Air-System (SAS) under the bonnet that’s essentially a factory-fitted anti-lag system.
We turned ours on in our car – something you can do via the ECU and a good tuner – to which the car went bang, bang and bang on big throttle lifts above 6000rpm.
The 2000 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 6 Tommi Makinen Edition is the one to have.

This example was a genuine Tommi Makinen Edition that had covered just 49,000km from new. It was factory optioned in Satellite Silver with a factory-fitted sunroof.
Less than 10 per cent of TME production was equipped with this option! It was imported by the owner of a car dealership who placed it in his own collection for five-years before we bought it.
We later sold it to a Tasmanian who loves and enjoys it ’til this day!
