Back in 1999, there was no Golf GTI – there was this
With its 130 kilowatt valve-lift engine and Autech aero pack, its easily one of the best Nissan Pulsars ever produced
Nissan claims its Pulsar VZR SR-V Aero Selection “was created to help you to sports with your whole body”.
Humorous Japlish aside, it meant to say its Pulsar VZR SR-V was designed for you to cane it in the bush, on the gravel, on the road, or on any surface you want. Its high ride height, wheel arch cladding, and huge spotties all speak to a multi-surface discipline.
Autech, Nissan’s renowned tuning partner, built this limited-edition variant of the Pulsar, dubbed the ‘Aero Selection’ model. Based on a five-door Nissan Pulsar, it features a high-output valve-lift SR16VE with 130 kilowatts, a special exhaust system made by Futjitsubo Giken, a complete body kit with a high-rise wing, dark blue dappled interior trim, a Momo steering wheel, and exclusive “Autech” branded interior gauges.
Only 250 were ever produced, and that 1.6-litre engine with Nissan VTEC is the absolute star in this package. You can hear its high compression ratio in its bark, and the sensation of it crossing over camshaft profiles at 5800 rpm is a novelty that never fades.
That makes it a usable and practical modern classic that has enough modernity to work and function reliably, yet still feel “of that time“.

This Nissan Pulsar was built in September 1998 and is a ‘VZR SR-V Aero Selection’ version.
That makes it a limited-edition model powered by a ‘SR16VE’ 1.6-litre engine with variable valve lift that produces 130 kW / 161 Nm. Its five-speed manual transaxle features a limited-slip differential (LSD).
Standard features include an Autech Aero kit, a Nissan premium sound system with a CD changer, air conditioning, dual airbags, ABS brakes, power windows, and central locking. Aftermarket goodies include a Fujitsubo exhaust manifold, SARD high-flow catalyst, 5Zigen Pro Racer cat-back exhaust system, new OEM springs, new OEM quality struts, new front discs and pads, and 16×7 Enkei PF01 rims with new tyres.
It comes with a large dossier of paperwork, including 15+ service notes from a Nissan dealer, a full logbook, and all associated paperwork related to its modifications. If sold at the asking price, we will include a set of Tein Monoflex coilovers and a genuine JN15 Endless twin-pot front brake kit ($3000 worth of parts!).
The car is in excellent condition for its age. The rear spoiler had an additional and aftermarket piece attached, which has since been removed. A small piece of corrosion was also removed from the hatch’s rear window’s right corner. The area underneath is neat and shows no corrosion.
