Toyota's 80-series Mark II is steeped in legend

A drift and motorsport icon in its own right, it's where the Toyota's legendary Mark II and Chaser models began their legacy

The Toyota Mark II is an icon.

A multi-generation drift machine and motorsport superstar, Toyota has manufactured its Mark II line of vehicles since the 1960s. However, it was in the late 1980s where things got spicy and the model became synonymous with drifting.

Toyota’s newly-launched 80-series Mark II (and Chaser) models debuted new six-cylinder powertrains and a sophisticated independent rear suspension setup with two wishbones. Over in Australia, we received the awesome Toyota MX83 Cressida complete with milkshake-making 7M-GE six-cylinder.

Over in Japan, they received more body types and powertrain configurations. This car is a ‘hardtop’ 80-series, meaning it has a thin roof profile, frameless doors and thin rear roof turrets. It’s also powered by a 1G-FE six-cylinder engine.

If you compare it to an Australian MX83 Cressida, you’ll begin to notice subtle differences. In turn, the Mark II’s roofline is lower, more dynamic, and better looking.

This example was a one-owner car from downtown Tokyo that was graded an amazing 4.5B. It still has dealership delivery plastic on the front passenger door card!

This Toyota Mark II was built in October 1991 and is an ‘Grande’ trim level.

That means it’s powered by a 2.0-litre ‘1G-FE’ six-cylinder with with 100kW of power and 177Nm of torque. It features a four-speed automatic and is rear-wheel drive

Extras on the Grande model include digital climate control with cool electric pop-out buttons, a Pioneer tape deck with Dolby amplifier, projector fog lights and electric seats.

This vehicle was purchased as a one-owner car from Tokyo, Japan, and comes with a Toyota service history. It was auctioned graded 4.5B!

Overall, the car presents in well above average condition for its age. The interior appears unused, and the rear seat was likely rarely used in all reality.
