The mighty Healey came in many formats, but most remember the straight-six 3000 models specifically

Still a deft and wonderful sports car, this example comes from long-term ownership and begs to be driven.

We all love the story of a world-beating sports car.

The “Big Healey” is the tale of the Healey 1000 and its successors, the 100-6 and 3000 model you’re looking at now. All were born from a 1952 partnership between designer Donald Healey and the Austin Motor Company.

Founder Donald Healey’s vision was for an affordable, high-performance sports car, and his initial “Healey 100” model debuted to critical acclaim in 1952. It led to a collaboration with Austin, with the partnership producing over 73,000 cars by the time production ended in 1967.

It solidified the “Big Healey” as an iconic and enduring British sports car that dominated motorsport throughout the 20th century. Still coveted by keen drivers today, the ‘big’ Healeys make for fantastic road cars that remain a joy to own.

It’s performance motoring, distilled into its purest and rarest form.

The car pictured – 1967 Austin Healey 3000 Mark III

This Austin Healey 3000 Mark III variant was produced in 1967 in a 2+2 roadster configuration.

The vehicle is powered by its original ‘C-Series’ 2.9-litre inline-six engine and four-speed manual transmission. The vehicle presents in good condition for its age, having been cared for and having undergone an older restoration.

The vehicle does not have any visible rust and has been lovingly used and dry-stored in the Southern Highlands by a long-term owner of 20+ years. It runs and drives well and could either be used as is with its wonderful patina.

It could also form the basis of a reasonable and minor restoration if you prefer a ‘new’ old car over originality.
