This recipe for success starts a sporty rear-wheel drive platform

and concludes with a 232kW V6 engine and eight-speed automatic

The 2013 Toyota Crown Athlete (GRS214) is the automotive equivalent of a Swiss army knife.

It offers plenty of power, great driving dynamics, comfort and room for four adults. Forever designed to throw a punch back at Europe, the 210-series Toyota Crown remained a competent medium-size rear-wheel drive.

It features a sophisticated suspension layout and a relatively light kerb weight. Power comes from Toyota’s steadfast 3.5-litre V6 engine with 232 kW / 377 Nm. The 2GR engine is a naturally aspirated mill that’s done time in everything from high-end Lexus products through to your Nan’s Toyota Kluger.

Call it a workhorse; it’s dependable, reliable as sin, and even powered a Toyota Tarago to a hilarious victory against a Porsche at Sydney Motorsport Park (watch here).

This particular generation Toyota Crown benefits from an eight-speed auto that helps reduce fuel economy and provides better acceleration.

It’s a sweet and reliable package that’s hard to argue against.

The car pictured – 2013 Toyota Crown Athlete (GRS214)

This Toyota Crown Athlete was built in January 2013 and is an S trim level. It was configured in pearl white with a black fabric interior.

It was purchased from USS Nagoya (Japan) as a 4.5B grade example and noted as a one-owner vehicle. Factory options include cruise control, electric seats and Toyota’s ‘Super Live Sound’ premium stereo system.

Standard features include keyless entry & start, a rear-view camera, HID headlights, and dual-zone climate control. The vehicle is in well above-average condition considering its age and mileage – a testament to its first and only owner.

It wears its original paint, and the vehicle has not been smoked in. The factory touchscreen infotainment system can be upgraded to support Apple CarPlay / Android Auto by our workshop.

The ‘2GR’ Toyota engine used in this vehicle was sold in Australia, so parts are readily available. The car is currently in transit from Japan and will benefit from a comprehensive service and once-over.
