The Mark X signs off on half-a-century of rear-wheel drive Toyota sports sedans

and as you'd expect, Toyota had the formula just right by now

Toyota has built rear-wheel-drive sports sedans for over 50 years.

Wearing ‘X’ in their chassis code – think JZX81 Mark II, JZX100 Chaser, and JZX110 Verossa, to name a few – these models were always the pick of the litter. Most used a sophisticated double-wishbone front suspension setup coupled with a decent multi-link rear.

Its cross-compatibility with a wide range of other Toyota models allowed you to customise it to your preference, and many were used for motorsport and for driving enthusiastically.

As the last in the lineage, Toyota blessed this 130-series as the ‘Toyota Mark X’ instead of the ‘Toyota Mark II’ in honour of the X chassis’ legacy. The formula was dialled by this point, meaning the Mark X will likely surprise you in terms of comfort and driving dynamics.

It’s remarkably agile for a larger car and handles well, plus the engine feels bigger and brighter than it ought to. This particular example is a nicely specified with with a factory option ‘Modellista’ body kit and exhaust, 3D illuminated kick panels and numerous other factory extras.

This Toyota Mark X was built in November 2013 and finished in pearl white with a black interior.

It is powered by a 3.5-litre V6 engine with a stout 234 kilowatt / 380 newton-metres on tap. Power is worked through a robust six-speed auto and fed exclusively to the rear (and right) wheels.

It was factory optioned with a genuine Toyota ‘Modellista’ body kit. Standard features include keyless entry and push-button start, an English-reading infotainment system, front & rear parking sensors, electric seats, dual-zone climate control, Cruise control, a rearview and side-view camera, Bluetooth connectivity, and more.

It was purchased in Japan via its auction network and was graded an above average score of 4.5B. It presents in above-average condition and comes with a decent Toyota main dealer service history and two keys. Alongside being well maintained in Japan, the vehicle has received a minor service upon arriving in Australia. New tyres were also fitted.

The paint is original, and the underside shows no evidence of action in cold climates. The vehicle comes with two keys and all associated paperwork from when it was new.
