With a formidable '2JZ' straight-six engine, this mighty Crown Athlete features a heart of gold

It's two-tone exterior colour is also half its charm

There comes a point in time when “good examples” of your favourite car become no more, which is what’s occurred with the turbocharged versions of this exact car, the Toyota Crown Athlete.

Most 1JZ turbocharged examples trade for nearly $25,000, making this 3.0-litre 2JZ example good value. It’s essentially the same car with a larger displacement and a naturally aspirated engine, and it’s ideal for modification.

In standard form it makes 162 kW / 294 Newton metres and features a five-speed automatic in this specific car. It’s classic enough to have an air of old times about it but modern enough to be reliable and easy to use frequently.

The S170-series Toyota Crown was the last of the JZ-powered series and arguably the end of an era for the Toyota Crown, which had used Toyota’s legendary inline-six engine in its Toyota Crown since the early 1990s.

This Toyota Crown was built in April 2000 and is an ‘Athlete’ trim level. That means it’s powered by a 2JZ-GE petrol engine and is rear-wheel drive.

Standard features include dual-zone climate control, an electric driver’s seat, remote central locking, power folding mirrors, a five-speed auto with manual mode and steering wheel controls. It was purchased from USS Nagoya as a grade 4.oB vehicle with no accident history and in original condition.

Its exterior presents in above average condition with no major scratches or dent present. On the inside, its interior has graced gracefully. The vehicle has never been smoked in and all functions work as intended. The upper and original LCD screen is showing some age, but its touch screen functions as it should.

The vehicle was serviced upon arriving in Australia and is in great mechanical shape.
