The 964 is arguably the peak 911; it signals the end of a 50-year legacy that started it all.
It's also the rarest generation of Porsche 911 ever produced.
There’s always a time when a brand gets it just right.
In the case of the iconic Porsche 911, the 964 is that moment. It was an 80-percent different car from what came before it – with design traits like integrated bumpers for the first time – yet still remained air-cooled.
Everything was better, stiffer, and firmer, and for the right reasons. Despite such modern touches, the 964’s design remained in step with 50 years of history that came before it.
Combining the best parts of modernity, timelessness, and the unique trait of being air-cooled, the 964-generation ironically became a hit posthumously. It does not bear the postmodern design tropes found in both the later 993-generation and 996-generation 911s and more honestly, it represents what made the 911 special to begin with.
As a financial crisis rolled in like a violent storm over the mid-1990s, the 964-generation Porsche 911 was cut short. It ran for only five years, which makes it the shortest generation of 911 produced and in the fewest numbers, too.
The 964-generation 911 has become highly sought after globally due to its ageing into one of the greats, and this particular example, which is a factory right-hand drive model delivered new in Japan, has had just one owner since it was new.
Given the rarity of the Porsche 964 in general, single-owner examples like this one are truly investment grade. Try that one on your better half after reading this.

This Porsche 911 was built in March 1991 and was delivered new to Japan through the official importer, Mitsuwa.
Mitsuwa raced Porsches all throughout the 1970s and 1980s globally and was the official distributor of Porsche vehicles in Japan until Germany took over in the mid-2000s. This example is noted to have had one owner from new and a detailed service history with an official Porsche repairer.
It was ordered in Carrera silver with a dark grey interior, in right-hand drive, and with a Tiptronic automatic transmission. As Mitsuwa was also the official distributor of TechArt accessories, this example was outfitted with a genuine TechArt front lip, genuine RS ducts, and a rear engine cover with an integrated upswept spoiler.
It also comes with paperwork for a major engine-out overhaul conducted at a main dealer in Japan, alongside an excellent service history from new showing diligent and careful maintenance. The vehicle is largely original inside and out and has never been repaired or involved in an accident.
As the vehicle was purchased from Tokyo, it has lived in dry conditions and been stored inside its whole life.

It really does have thumping performance, rich with torque and spiced with a dry-edged rasp that is – to my ears, at least – one of the great engine notes of any car.Richard Meaden, Porsche 911 through the ages, evo.co.uk,
