The W204-generation C63 AMG represents a watershed moment for the brand

And AMG's first-ever clean-sheet engine will go down in history as one of Germany's finest

Before 2008, there wasn’t an Mercedes-AMG performance car you’d sanely pick over a BMW M-car from Munich.

The BMW’s were faster, sharper, and usually fitted with a six-speed manual. It produced the ultimate driving machine, and at the time, BMW had a longer and more decorated history of building fast and fun road cars.

That was until Mercedes-Benz and AMG launched their C63. Powered by AMG’s first-ever in-house engine, the W204-generation C63 AMG combined a simplistic chassis with brute force and a snappy transmission.

That’s by 2012. Where earlier ‘pre-facelift’ 2008-2011 C63 AMG models featured head studs that stretched under duress and a dopey transmission, 2012+ ‘facelift’ cars were vastly improved upon in comparison.

AMG fixed the engine’s Achilles heel by installing beefier head studs and also coupled the updated engine to a fast-shifting MCT transmission. Fundamentally a seven-speed manual with an automated clutch, it makes the engine feel even brighter and even faster.

Both updates result in a fast, bulletproof, and undeniably cool wagon. AMG’s first-ever engine – the M156 – is the star here.

It produces 600nm of torque quickly and sounds utterly insane when making it. It’s charismatic, a constant reminder of why we love internal combustion, and even reflects the fact you’re pragmatic as well as a hooligan.

This Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG Wagon was built in June 2012 and delivered new by Mercedes-Benz Toorak to its first owners.

It’s powered by a 6.2-litre V8 engine with 336kW/600Nm, is rear-wheel drive and sprints from 0-100km/h in 4.4 seconds.

The vehicle was configured with: Obsidian black paint, eletric tilt/slide sunroof, Designo black Nappa leather trim, Designo black headlining, 12-way adjustable electric sports seats with two-position memory on both sides, seat heating, keyless entry and start, power rear tailgate, front and rear parking sensors with visual display, auto-dimming exterior side mirrors and Harman Kardon premium audio.

Standard features include: tri-zone climate control, Bluetooth audio with smartphone integration, cruise control, various driving modes including ‘Race Start’, and more.

The vehicle was traded in at Mercedes-Benz Toorak and then purchased by its second and only-other private owner. It has been maintained solely by Mercedes-Benz Toorak who conducted a major service on the vehicle before it headed to NSW.

It was also recently serviced with its engine and differential oils changed. Alongside a detailed service history, it comes with its original log books and owner’s manual.

This car has never been modified, repaired or repainted in any way and is wholly-original.
