The second-generation Pajero hits the mark in terms of modernity, off-road performance and style

This one is a rare Sr-2 sports version with Recaro seats and plenty of other treats

Short-Wheelbase (SWB) 4x4s are the ones to have.

Their compact footprint makes them easier to drive and manage on- and off-road; and they also look the best too. Stubby and short, they’re as high off the ground as they are long, and they clearly don’t look like the four-door Aussie-delivered shitter your mate’s Mum once had.

This second-generation Mitsubishi Pajero SWB is a rare Sr-2 ‘Sports” version with a whole host of cool factory options. It has factory-fitted Recaro seats, a rear spoiler akin to what’s on a PajEvo, red side decals, and a nudge bar with spotties.

It’s literally the winning combo. With under 100,000 km on the clock and graded 4.0 at auction, we only find this type of car once every 24 months.

Now’s your time to shine.

The car pictured – 1997 Mitsubishi Pajero Sr-2 SWB (V21)

This Mitsubishi Pajero was manufactured in August 1997 and is a ‘Sr-2’ trim level with a petrol engine.

That means it’s powered by a 2.4-litre ‘4G64’ petrol four-cylinder engine with 107kW of power and 205Nm of torque. Aside from Mitsubishi’s super-select all-wheel drive system that allows four- and two-drive in the dry, it also features a l0w-range transfer case and a centre diff lock.

As a more unusual ‘sports’ model, it features Recaro ‘Pajero’ seats with adjustable squads and lumbar, a rear spoiler, a genuine Mitsubishi nudge bar with genuine fog lights, side decals, adaptive suspension, climate control air conditioning, a dedicated rear heater and rear-zone of climate control, power steering and remote central locking.

Having travelled 98,000km from new, it presents in above average condition inside, outside and underneath. This vehicle is also free from chassis corrosion and was purchased from the south side of Japan.

Its engine bay is covered with service stickers that show its cooling system, automatic transmission and differential fluids were recently changed. On top of being well maintained, it was also serviced by our workshop upon arriving in Australia.
