The 'HT81S' Suzuki Swift Sport was delivered new to Australia in limited numbers

This example has an impeccable history and rare upgrades

The Suzuki Swift Sport has a 30-year legacy of bang-for-your-buck performance.

Strangely, in the 2000s, Suzuki rebadged its Swift as the ‘Ignis’ for no real reason. However, that did not stop the Australian division from delivering 300-odd examples of the high-performance Sport model new through its dealerships.

Its intent is clear: a high-compression 1.5-litre twin-cam engine with variable valve timing, close-ratio five-speed manual, factory-fitted Recaro SE seats, lightweight Enkei wheels & a rally-inspired widebody.

At just over 900kg in weight, it feels agile and willing to perform. Despite its odometer, it feels tight, and there’s good reason for that. This example was held by one owner for nearly 15 years before being handed over to a couple of owners who are known to us here at Cult&Classic.

The vehicle has a detailed and full service history and, most importantly, has been loved its whole life. It’s quite remarkable how well it drives today, making it well worth a test drive.

The vehicle also comes with a handful of rare and hard-to-get upgrades, in addition to the many thousands spent on replacement components. That’s also half this car’s secret.

The car pictured – 2004 Suzuki Ignis Sport

This Suzuki Ignis Sport was built in April 2004 and was configured in ‘Z2S – Silky Silver Metallic’. It was delivered new via Lindsay Mumford Suzuki to its original owner, who retained the car until 2018.

Power comes from a high-compression ‘M15A’ 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and a factory five-speed manual transmission. Standard features include Recaro bucket seats, Enkei lightweight wheels, a factory-wide body kit with a large rear wing, air conditioning, an on-board lap timer, white-faced gauges & more.

The car features a full Suzuki service history from new to 182,000km. From here, the following parts were replaced/upgraded:

  • Genuine Suzuki coil packs, spark leads, iridium spark plugs
  • Genuine Suzuki waterpump with MonsterSport thermostat
  • Genuine Suzuki radiator and cooling hoses
  • Genuine Suzuki alternator
  • Genuine Suzuki air con pulley with new belts
  • Genuine Suzuki front main seal
  • Genuine/Exedy clutch kit & flywheel
  • Genuine gearbox seals
  • New RHS driveshaft / reco LHS driveshaft with intermediate shaft seats
  • New shock absorbers x4
  • Genuine Suzuki front control arms with ball joints

  • New brake discs, pads, and rebuilt brake callipers
  • New Fujitsubo Legalis R exhaust ($$$!)
  • New Cusco front strut brace with brake master stopper

  • + more

The vehicle presents in fantastic condition for its age. It wears original paint and has never been repaired before. There are no significant flaws or damage; however, there are minor paint imperfections in line with its age and use.

The interior is in excellent shape as well, with minor wear to its factory Recaro seats. Only ~300 examples were ever delivered new to Australia.
