Toyota's first-and-only V12 is just as smooth and reliable as you think

It's a hand-built car made to transport those born into power – and obviously you want a bit of that.

Are you a foreign dignitary?

Didn’t think so. However, if you aspire to live a luxurious lifestyle or emulate the Emperor of Japan, this 2005 Toyota Century is the perfect vehicle for you. The quality of their construction is truly worthy of a king.

If you’ve experienced and owned a few unique cars in your time, you’ll understand the value of what a Century offers. On top of layers upon layers of factory paintwork, there’s a fine-grade Japanese leather interior, four heated, electric, and massaging seats, and even an extension for the rear passenger to lay their legs flat through the seat in front.

This example even features the rare option of a rear writing table. Aside from all that razzamatazz about build quality and amenity, the Toyota Century is still a modern marvel. Toyota’s sole V12 engine powers it, ensuring smooth and reliable performance.

Toyota only manages to build around 30 Toyota Centurys per month, making it an extremely rare vehicle. Australia imports it under a ‘rarity’ criterion, which it shares with the Bugatti Veyron.

Seeing such a low-production and high-craft vehicle from a mass production manufacturer is rare. The Toyota Century is entertaining, unique, and guaranteed to create a stir wherever you venture.

Our Toyota Century was built in January 2001. We bought it as a Grade 4.0B car from JU Nara, which had one previous private owner.

It’s powered by a 5.0-litre naturally aspirated V12 engine dubbed ‘1GZ-FE’ with 206 kW of power and 481 Nm of torque and uses a four-speed automatic. It is rear-wheel drive.

This example was finished in ‘Eternal Black’ and configured with regular side mirrors and a grey leather interior. Other options include a dual EMV package with front and rear screens, a rear VHS player, a Toyota Century dictaphone, Toyota Century headphones, and a rear writing table.

Standard features include heated and massaging seats everywhere, climate control air conditioning, air suspension, traction control, multiple airbags, ABS, a digital speed readout, electric seats with electric headrests, reclining rear seats, and more.
