The Honda CR-Z was the worlds-first hybrid sports car
And with a six-speed manual, it's even more intriguing
Every now and again, we will sell a car from our personal collection.
As die-hard Honda fans and previous CR-X owners, the Honda CR-Z has always been a strange enigma to us. Not only was it the world’s first hybrid sports car with a manual transmission, but being a Honda has to mean it’s good to drive too.
We scoured the Australian market for years before buying this rare six-speed manual that was traded in by the previous owner at Mosman Toyota.
It was in completely standard condition when we received it. Since we can’t resist making improvements, we’ve added thousands of dollars worth of genuine parts to it. The most obvious are a set of rare and expensive 18-inch three-piece Rays wheels, which set the car off nicely.
The suspension has been replaced front-to-back with new OEM Honda struts, bearings, bump tops and mounts, and a set of high-quality Japanese lowering springs.
We also fitted a genuine Mugen high-rise spoiler, a genuine Spoon axle-back exhaust, genuine de-lensed tail lights, an Apple CarPlay and Android Auto stereo with a genuine double-DIN facia, and plenty more goodies.
It drives remarkably well and uses absolutely no fuel, making it a fun daily driver or weekender that won’t cost the world to own and run.

The car pictured – 2012 Honda CR-Z Hybrid
This Honda CR-Z was built in June 2012 and was specified in metallic black with a six-speed manual. It was delivered new to Australia.
It’s powered by a Honda LEA 1.5-litre i-VTEC four-cylinder engine with hybrid assistance. Its engine power is 91 kW/173 Nm, but the electric motor provides instant torque and power, which makes it feel quicker than the figures suggest.
Its high-voltage battery has been inspected and presents with even voltage across all cells and is remarkably robust. The vehicle has been serviced multiple times in our ownership and was modified by us with new, genuine and high-quality aftermarket parts only.
The car comes with some service history and two keys. The vehicle’s exterior presents in above-average condition. We had a high-quality paint shop repaint numerous sections of the vehicle after fitting the genuine Mugen spoiler. We also conducted minor paintless dent removal before painting for a clean finish.
The interior is in excellent condition too, with minor scratches to the glovebox area on the passenger side and a driver’s seat with a few wrinkles. Its touchscreen infotainment system is new and features Apple CarPlay & Andriod Auto connectivity. The vehicle comes with all of its standard parts, including its standard wheels.
