The Toyota MR-S is a functional mid-engine sport car & great MX-5 alternative

This example's rarity is enhanced by its factory green paint & genuine option TRD aero kit

The Toyota MR-S (or MR2) is a staple of the affordable sports car fraternity and has held its place now for over 30 years.

The first generation was known in the early days for its sharp, snappy and rewarding driving experience. By the third generation, Toyota had refined its baby sports car significantly.

Toyota mastered the balance and gifted the third generation’s chassis with a neutral, communicative feeling. Quick steering and a light front end make it feel poised, and its breakaway point leaves you time to decide your future and keep it going straight.

The car is rewarding and eager to perform, and it is arguably more exotic than its competitors because of its mid-engine driveline layout. We originally imported this example and sold it to Matt Brand from CarSauce.

You can watch a video here of him buying the car and another video here on why he traded it in and what he bought next.

This car features a truly unique configuration, as it is one of only a handful finished in ‘6S1 – Green Mica metallic’ and is factory-fitted with a TRD aero kit.

This Toyota MR-S was built in January 2000 and was configured in metallic green with a TRD aero kit from the factory. It is powered by a ‘1ZZ’ 1.8-litre four-cylinder petrol engine and features a factory five-speed manual transmission.

It was purchased from USS Nagoya (Japan) as a 4.0B grade example. Standard features include keyless entry & start, power windows and mirrors, a CD player, air conditioning, cup holders and a front storage box. The vehicle is in well above-average condition for its age and mileage.

Aftermarket extras include a Kakimoto exhaust and genuine OZ racing wheels. It wears mostly original paint, and the vehicle has not been smoked in. There are no significant flaws or damage, and the exterior is in excellent condition. The interior has aged well and sports minor marks that are fair for its use.

The roof is in good condition and does not feature any holes or repair patches. It is watertight and does not leak. The ‘1ZZ’ Toyota engine used in this vehicle was sold in Australia in its Toyota Corolla, so parts are readily available.
